What to leave on the desk before a yard day

A useful visit is an ordinary Tuesday. Polished rounds and extra loaders make a pretty morning and a useless chart.

Tell the yard we are coming, then change as little as possible. Extra loaders on the visit day move the gate time by ten minutes that will not exist next week. We would rather see the usual scramble at bay three.

Leave the disciplinary file in the office. We are not scoring named drivers. If a round is late because one person consistently starts ten minutes after the others, the chart will show the round, and the manager can decide what to do with that fact.

Bring the planned sheet and the completed sheet for the same day. GPS traces help when you already store them; they are not a reason to postpone the visit. Paper still tells the story of a missed window if someone wrote the actual time.

Warn the two drivers we will ride with that we will sit quietly and note times. We will not reroute them. A ‘helpful’ diversion around a known pinch point is exactly the behaviour we need to see, so let it happen.

Food, high-visibility clothing, and a dry place to stand at 05:30 are practical, not ceremonial. Glenmore reviewers travel with their own kit. What we cannot bring is permission to stand airside or inside a bonded cage; arrange that the day before if the contract requires it.
